🇺🇸 James Sofronas

James Sofronas is an entry-level professional driver and founder of Global Motorsports Group, racing primarily for GMG Racing. He competes in national solo sprint and endurance GT racing, primarily in the Porsche Carrera Cup NA, GT America and McLaren Trophy America series, driving GT3 and production-based machinery. He holds an FIA Bronze grading.[1]

Sofronas won the 2022 International GT championship in a four-start campaign, taking four wins from four starts. He returned to sustained competition in 2024 and has since claimed the 2025 McLaren Trophy America Am Class title with GMG Racing, taking six wins across the ten-round season. In GT America, he has taken one win and four podiums from ten starts across 2024 and 2025. His Porsche Carrera Cup NA record spans three seasons from 2024 onward, yielding three wins and seven podiums from twelve starts. His career has also included earlier endurance entries in the IMSA WeatherTech, IMSA Pilot Challenge and GT World Challenge America series between 2014 and 2024.[2]

In his regular fields he competes closely with professional and semi-professional drivers. He runs consistently ahead of Kyle Washington, an entry-level professional in the same championships, and is closely matched with Justin Rothberg, a professional and three-time champion in GT America and GT World Challenge America who has raced 62 times across those two series alone. He has also finished ahead of established professionals; he beat Kevin Estre, a Platinum-graded driver and two-time WEC champion, once in IMSA competition. In his current 2026 Porsche Carrera Cup NA season, two rounds completed so far, he holds third in the championship standings with two podiums.
