Thomas Merrill is an entry-level professional racing driver competing across multiple series at the national level in the United States. He races in Trans-Am TA2, where he has been a regular since 2019, as well as in IMSA's multiclass endurance championships in GT4 America and Pilot Challenge; he also contested Porsche Carrera Cup NA and higher-class IMSA series earlier in his career. Merrill holds an FIA Silver grade, positioning him as a developing driver within sportscar and endurance racing. His primary base has been Trans-Am TA2, where he won the 2022 championship.[1]

His record across all series spans eight seasons and 116 starts, yielding 12 wins and 38 podiums. In Trans-Am TA2 alone, he has accumulated 10 wins and 28 podiums across 62 starts, establishing himself as a consistent frontrunner in that series. His championship came in 2022, the same year he made his sole World Endurance Championship appearance and recorded a podium finish there. Beyond Trans-Am, his results have been more sporadic; he has taken a single podium each in Porsche Carrera Cup NA, GT4 America and Pilot Challenge, and raced the higher-class IMSA WeatherTech and GT World Challenge America with minimal success. His two wins in IMSA WeatherTech came across just eight starts over four seasons, and his three podiums there included his WEC result.[2]

Merrill's regular competition is in Trans-Am TA2, where he races against established and developing drivers at his own level. He runs closely with Rafa Matos, a three-time Trans-Am TA2 champion and former IndyCar driver whose career spans significantly more racing than Merrill's own, and he typically finishes ahead of fellow Trans-Am regular Tom Sheehan. He has occasionally outfinished much stronger drivers; he beat Kyle Kirkwood, a Gold-graded professional who won Indy NXT and has raced IndyCar, once across their meetings, and finished ahead of Ty Gibbs, champion of the ARCA Menards Series, twice. His work in IMSA's endurance series has placed him in mixed fields of amateurs and professionals, though his results in those championships have not reached the podium frequency he maintains in Trans-Am.
