Michael Funke is an entry-level professional racing in national multiclass endurance championships. His primary series is the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie, where he races shared-driver cars in Cup and production-based classes for Dörr Motorsport. He also competes in the Nürburgring 24 Hours in GT and turbocharged production machinery. He holds an FIA Bronze rating, the amateur grade within endurance racing.[1]
Funke has taken part in 20 indexed starts across three series since 2005. His record in the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie spans from 2011 to 2024, where he has one win and two podiums from nine starts. In the Nürburgring 24 Hours he has two podiums from five starts, racing in GT4 and GT3 machinery. His only appearance in single-seater racing came in 2005 when he started six rounds of the World Touring Car Championship for Ford Hotfiel Sport, finishing 25th in the season standings.[2]
His most frequent rivals in endurance racing are Marc Hennerici, a Silver-graded entry-level professional and two-time Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie champion, and Augusto Farfus, a Gold-graded professional with extensive World Touring Car and international prototype experience. Funke typically finishes behind both. He has nevertheless outfinished established professionals; he beat Platinum-graded IMSA champion Antonio Garcia and Gold-graded Philip Ellis once each in endurance company.
