João Jardim was an entry-level professional racing in single-class and multiclass open-wheel championships in the United States. He drove for JDC Motorsports in the Star Mazda Championship, a national series fielding a mix of amateur, semi-professional and graded professionals in single-seater machinery.[1]
His indexed racing career ran from 2009 to 2011 across two series and ten starts. He competed in the SKUSA SuperNationals SuperPro class in 2009, then joined the Star Mazda Championship full-time in 2011 with JDC Motorsports, finishing tenth in the championship standings.[2]
Jardim raced most often against established professionals. He regularly competed with Gustavo Menezes, a former WEC LMP2 champion with extensive Formula 3 European experience, and Connor De Phillippi, a multiple GT World Challenge and IMSA champion; he finished ahead of both drivers on several occasions across their meetings, though he typically ran behind them in the field overall. The Star Mazda grid that season included multiple graded drivers and future IMSA regulars, placing Jardim mid-pack among drivers who would go on to established professional careers.
