Larry Pollard is a professional racing in NASCAR Xfinity, the American single-class stock car championship. He raced primarily on oval circuits across six seasons from 1985 to 1990, driving for Whitaker Racing and latterly Hensley Motorsports.[1]
Pollard scored a single win and three podiums across 98 starts. His win came in 1987 at Langley Speedway in the Busch 200, making him the first non-American driver to win a Busch Grand National event. His final indexed season was 1990, when he made a single start and finished 41st in the points.[2]
His regular opponents in Xfinity were professionals with far longer tenures in the series; Pollard ran closely matched against L.D. Ottinger and Rick Mast, both drivers with over 200 starts each. He finished ahead of Elton Sawyer, who accumulated 392 starts across his career, on 44 occasions. Among stronger drivers, he beat established professional Jeff Gordon once, Gordon having raced 73 Xfinity starts. Pollard came to Xfinity as an experienced crew chief for NASCAR, having worked for Richard Petty and Phil Parsons in the 1980s before turning to driving.
