Montilla raced against a mixed field of amateurs, semi-professionals and graded professionals, with regular opponents including Tobias Hegewald, a professional who progressed to GP3, and Andrea Caldarelli, an established professional who went on to win the GT World Challenge Europe and European Le Mans Series LMGT3. Against both, Montilla typically finished behind. His 22 starts yielded no wins or podiums, placing him outside the points positions that defined the season.[2]
The field included drivers of significantly higher calibre. Daniel Ricciardo, who would race in Formula 1 and win the Formula V8 3.5 championship, and Jean-Eric Vergne, a Formula E champion and former Formula 1 driver, both raced in the Eurocup during Montilla's time there. Montilla finished ahead of both drivers once each across their meetings, a pair of results isolated in an otherwise uncompetitive campaign against the grid's established drivers.
