Pascal Fabre contested the 1987 Formula 1 season with AGS, a team that would prove uncompetitive throughout the grid. He started 11 Grands Prix but failed to score championship points and finished the season in 22nd place overall. His best result was a ninth-place finish, achieved twice at the French and British Grands Prix. He was replaced before the campaign ended by Roberto Moreno.[1]
Fabre's entry into Formula 1 placed him immediately against the sport's dominant drivers of that era. Across six shared races, he finished behind Alain Prost (a five-time champion), Ayrton Senna (a two-time champion), and Nelson Piquet (a three-time champion graded Platinum by the FIA) on every occasion. He recorded a similar pattern against Jonathan Palmer and Stefan Johansson, competitive drivers in their own right. His sole notable result was finishing ahead of Nigel Mansell, a one-time champion, on one occasion among six races they contested together. His average finishing position across all classified races was 11th.[2]
The 1987 season proved to be Fabre's only year in Formula 1. His brief tenure reflected the substantial gap between the equipment and resources available to him at AGS and the machinery of frontrunning teams, compounded by the calibre of driver he faced. His post-racing career has included sportscar competition and commentary on the sport.
