Scott Sumpton is a British racing driver who competed in the 2024 British Touring Car Championship, the country's premier domestic single-seater series. He completed a single season with Restart Racing, starting 30 rounds but recording no wins or podium finishes. His average finishing position of P16 placed him well outside the competitive envelope of the BTCC's strongest fields.[1]
Sumpton's season was spent in direct competition with some of the category's most accomplished drivers. He finished ahead of four-time BTCC champion Ash Sutton on three occasions and two-time FIA Gold graded champion Tom Ingram twice; he also managed single results ahead of FIA Silver graded champion Jake Hill and professional-level driver Dan Cammish. However, these isolated results against front-running opposition came within a much broader pattern of finishing behind them consistently. Against Ingram he was lapped in 23 of 25 shared races; against Hill, behind in 26 of 27 shared races; against Sutton, behind in 22 of 25 shared races. His competitive standing across the field was firmly in the amateur category, reflected in a Racer Rating of 1,907.
The driver parted ways with Restart Racing in October 2024 and has since retired from racing. A statement in February 2025 ruled out any prospect of a BTCC return that year.
