Tony Buffomante is an entry-level professional racing in a national single-class championship, the Trans-Am TA2 series, driving a tube-frame V8 silhouette car. He is retired from active competition.[1]
Buffomante's indexed racing career spans from 2006 to 2019 across two national series. He began with two starts in NASA's multiclass championship in 2006, winning both races in the Factory Five Challenge class of Cobra-replica roadsters. His later and more substantial record came in Trans-Am TA2, where he made seven starts across 2018 and 2019, taking four podiums including three finishes in the top three across five rounds of his most recent season, which saw him finish seventh in the 2019 championship standings.[2]
In TA2, Buffomante typically finished ahead of semi-professional regulars, including Tom Sheehan across their meetings, and he beat the entry-level professional and Star Mazda champion Rafa Matos in their head-to-head record despite Matos being a regular opponent who generally finished ahead of him. His strongest single results came against drivers from higher professional ranks; he finished ahead of the established professional Brandon Jones and the elite Silver-graded NASCAR Truck champion Christopher Bell once each during his time in the series.
