Ghirelli is an entry-level professional racing driver, FIA Silver graded, competing across multiple series at semi-professional and amateur levels. His primary activity spans open-wheel championships from 2010 through 2013, GP3 Series, Formula Renault Eurocup, Formula V8 3.5, and GP2 Series, followed by a single start in Indy NXT in 2014. He has returned to racing in 2025 and 2026 in the NASCAR Canada Series, where he currently sits 23rd in the championship standings with one round completed of the ongoing season.[1]

Across 62 career starts, Ghirelli raced against fields mixing amateurs with graded professionals but typically finished behind them. His notable scalps include two finishes ahead of Mitch Evans, the 2012 GP3 Series champion and later a Formula E regular, and one finish ahead of Carlos Sainz, who won the 2014 Formula V8 3.5 championship and went on to Formula 1. These victories came within larger fields where both drivers were present rather than as head-to-head dominance; his regular rivals in those years, Nico Müller and Rio Haryanto, both Platinum-graded professionals with far deeper single-seater experience, consistently finished ahead of him. His most substantial tenure was in Formula V8 3.5 with Comtec Racing, the team that has fielded elite drivers including Esteban Ocon.
