Ghirelli is a semi-professional driver rated 3,865, competing across single-seater championships from 2010 to 2014. He holds an FIA Silver grade, the classification for drivers developing within sportscar and endurance racing; his indexed record spans five seasons and 60 starts in open-wheel series including GP3, Formula V8 3.5, Formula Renault Eurocup, GP2 and Indy NXT, most recently with Team Moore Racing.[1]

He spent two seasons in GP3 with Addax Team, taking 23 starts, then moved through Formula Renault Eurocup with One Racing, Formula V8 3.5 with Comtec Racing, and a brief spell in GP2 Series with Venezuela GP Lazarus before finishing his indexed record with four starts in Indy NXT, where he placed 11th in the championship standings. Comtec Racing fielded him most regularly, giving him 13 of his 60 career starts; that team has won seven races across the database and also fielded elite professional Esteban Ocon.[2]

He regularly raced Nico Müller, an established professional with Platinum status and extensive DTM and Formula E experience, and Rio Haryanto, similarly graded with GP2 Series and Formula 1 starts, though he typically finished behind both. He recorded wins against stronger drivers; he beat Mitch Evans, an elite professional with 116 Formula E starts, twice, and finished ahead of Carlos Sainz, the 2014 Formula V8 3.5 champion and Formula 1 driver, once in that same series.
