Zhi Cong Li is an entry-level professional who raced formula single-seaters at the third tier of international competition. He drove for Carlin and Jo Zeller Racing across two seasons from 2015 to 2016, competing in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship and Formula 3 Macau in a field mixing amateur, semi-professional and graded professional drivers.[1]
Li made 26 starts in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship across 2015 and 2016, finishing 24th in the championship standings in the latter year. He also made a single start at Formula 3 Macau in 2015. His racer rating of 3,295 places him in the entry-level professional band. Over his career he regularly faced established and professional-level drivers including Callum Ilott, a Platinum-graded driver who would go on to 81 Formula 3 European starts, and Sergio Sette Camara, a professional-graded driver with 57 starts in the series. Li typically finished behind both. He did finish ahead of generational-level drivers George Russell and Charles Leclerc on single occasions; Russell went on to win Formula 1 championships and Leclerc to become a Formula 1 front-runner, though at the time of these meetings both were early in their single-seater careers.[2]
