Zhi Cong Li was an entry-level professional single-seater racer from China, competing solo in single-class championships that ran from amateur and semi-professional entrants up to graded professionals on the same grid. He drove for Carlin in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship and for Jo Zeller Racing in Formula 3 Macau.[1]
Across the 2015 and 2016 seasons, Li's Formula 3 European campaign with Carlin made up the bulk of his career, and it closed with a 24th-place finish in the 2016 championship standings from seven rounds raced. He also made a single start in Formula 3 Macau in 2015 for Jo Zeller Racing.[2]
His regular opposition in FIA Formula 3 European included Callum Ilott, an FIA Platinum-graded professional who went on to race in IndyCar and Formula 2, and Sergio Sette Camara, an FIA Gold-graded professional who later raced in Formula 2 and Formula E; against both, Li was usually the one finishing behind. He did finish ahead of George Russell and Charles Leclerc, each a generational talent who went on to Formula 1, once apiece. His main team, Fortec Motorsports, was one of the stronger entrants on the grid and had also fielded Leclerc among its drivers.
