George Russell races Formula 1, a single-class championship contested solo, one driver per car, across more than thirty countries, for Mercedes. His Racer Rating of 8,761 ranks him second among active drivers and sits in the generational band, the level of drivers who meet and regularly beat the strongest field in the sport. He also carries the FIA's Platinum grade, one of the two grades reserved for full professionals.[1]

Russell's route through the junior categories was built on titles: GB3 with Lanan Racing in 2014, the GP3 Series with ART Grand Prix in 2017, and Formula 2 with ART Grand Prix in 2018, the last of those coming from seven wins in twenty-four starts. He also spent two seasons in FIA Formula 3 European with HitechGP, taking three wins and thirteen podiums across fifty-six starts. Since 2019 he has raced in Formula 1 for Mercedes, with seven wins and twenty-nine podiums from 163 starts to date.[2]

Russell's most frequent opponents in this index are Lance Stroll, an established professional and 2016 FIA Formula 3 European champion, and Alexander Albon, an elite professional with well over a hundred Formula 1 starts; against both he is closely matched. He has also finished ahead of Max Verstappen, a four-time Formula 1 champion, and of Lando Norris, the 2025 Formula 1 champion and a former Formula Renault Eurocup and FIA Formula 3 European title winner, on multiple occasions across their shared Formula 1 careers.
