International GT runs multiple classes of grand touring and prototype machinery in sprint competition. The series fields a moderately skilled grid anchored by drivers such as Memo Gidley, Steven Thomas and Luca Mars, with calibre comparable to Trans-Am and positioned between the stronger IMSA Pilot Challenge and GT4 America below it and the more competitive IMSA Prototype Challenge above. The field is largely ungraded amateurs and gentleman drivers, reflecting its open-entry character; a small proportion have crossed from sportscar grading championships. International GT functions as a mixed stepping stone, drawing drivers from both IMSA Pilot Challenge and the more prestigious Prototype Challenge and Trans-Am series while feeding talent downward to SVRA and GT4 America as well as upward to GT World Challenge America.
