Trans-Am is a sprint series founded in 1966 that runs silhouette and production-based GT cars across six classes from entry-level to professional. The series fields silhouette machinery in its top classes; the TA class, which runs tube-frame V8 cars, anchors the field with a professional core of Silver and Gold drivers including Brandon Jones and Paul Tracy, while the production-based GT classes at the series' lower end attract amateurs and club racers. The field overall sits at entry-level professional calibre, stronger than the club and regional series that feed it and noticeably weaker than TA2, a higher series within the Trans-Am structure.
