Hugh Barter is an Australian-Japanese racing driver whose single-seater career progressed through the French and Spanish F4 championships before reaching Formula 3 with Campos Racing. He built his early reputation with runner-up finishes in French F4 in 2021 and 2022 and in the 2022 F4 Spanish Championship, results that established him as a driver capable of consistent front-running pace in junior categories. He later broadened his experience with appearances in the Indian Racing League and the F4 Indian Championship in 2024, as well as a stint in the 2025 Ultimate Cup Series with Winfield Racing, before his most recent single-seater campaign in Formula 3. Alongside his on-track programs, Barter has also taken on a test and simulator role with the Lola Yamaha ABT Formula E Team, reflecting an expanding involvement in professional motorsport beyond race weekends.[1]
In Formula 3 with Campos Racing, Barter's record now stands at 16 career starts without a win or podium finish, a status reflected in his current Racer Rating of 3,329, placing him 743rd among active drivers on a scale where the world's elite sit between 10,000 and 11,500. His most recent season saw him start all 16 rounds without a win or podium, finishing 15th in the standings. Barter is now listed as retired from the category, closing out a Formula 3 tenure that did not yield a championship, race win, or podium, following a junior career built largely on strong F4 form across multiple national championships.[2]
