🇷🇴 Michael Herck

Michael Herck is a retired professional driver who raced single-seaters across Formula 3 Euro Series, Formula V8 3.5, and GP2 Series between 2006 and 2011. He drove for Scuderia Coloni in GP2, the team that fielded him for the majority of his career, and spent time with Pons Racing and Bas Leinders Junior Racing Team in the junior categories.[1]

Over six seasons Herck accumulated 76 starts and two podium finishes, competing in fields that mixed amateur and semi-professional drivers alongside graded professionals. His strongest period came in GP2 Series, where he finished 20th in the 2011 championship standings; his single GP2 podium came at Le Castellet. In Formula 3 Euro Series he took one podium across 13 starts, and in Formula V8 3.5 he appeared in 14 races without a podium finish.[2]

Herck regularly raced against Giedo van der Garde and Davide Valsecchi, both established professionals who took championships in their shared series with him and typically finished ahead. His most notable scalps came against elite-level opposition: he finished ahead of Sebastian Vettel three times across their meetings in Formula 3 Euro Series and Formula V8 3.5, and beat Sergio Pérez five times in GP2. These victories stand out chiefly for the calibre of the opposition rather than their frequency; they came in a career otherwise spent mid-field against stronger regular competitors.
