Dani Clos is an established professional racing driver with a Racer Rating of 5,528, a level that describes a full-time competitor capable of winning races in strong fields. Across nine seasons from 2005 to 2013, he contested 113 races in single-seater categories, primarily in the GP2 Series where he started 54 times for MP Motorsport and scored one win alongside nine podiums. His progression followed the conventional European ladder: three wins in the Formula Renault Eurocup for Jenzer Motorsport in 2005โ2006, two podium finishes in the Formula 3 Euro Series with Prema Powerteam in 2007โ2008, and a brief stint in Formula V8 3.5 in 2009. His four career wins came across multiple series, demonstrating consistent race-winning capability without ever establishing dominance in any single championship.[1]
Clos competed regularly against drivers who went on to reach the elite of professional motorsport. He had roughly even head-to-head records against Edoardo Mortara and Davide Valsecchi, who became much stronger drivers; Valsecchi won the 2012 GP2 Series that Clos was racing in the same year. Against Nico Hรผlkenberg and Romain Grosjean, both of whom progressed to Formula 1, Clos finished ahead more often than behind, a notable achievement given that Hรผlkenberg and Grosjean both became multiple-time podium finishers at the sport's highest level. He also registered victories over drivers of the calibre of Sergio Perez and Jolyon Palmer across their shared races. His average finishing position of P10.3 across all classified starts reflects a mid-field professional presence; he was reliable enough to finish consistently but lacked the edge required to sustain a championship push in the series where he competed.[2]
His single-seater career concluded in 2013 following nine rounds of GP2 competition where he scored one podium and finished twentieth overall. Clos later became test driver for the HRT Formula One team in 2012 and has since turned his attention to other racing ventures, most recently competing in the UIM E1 World Championship, an electric powerboat series, where he won the season opener in January 2025.
