Luca Filippi was an established professional racing driver with FIA Gold grading, competing across fourteen seasons from 2004 to 2020 in single-seater and open-wheel championships. He spent most of his career in the GP2 Series, where he drove for Scuderia Coloni, alongside campaigns in IndyCar, Formula E, and the FIA World Touring Car Cup. His rating of 4,398 places him among the stronger drivers at the professional level.[1]
Filippi took six wins and seventeen podiums across 71 starts in GP2 between 2006 and 2012, establishing himself as a consistent frontrunner in that field. His move to IndyCar from 2013 to 2016 yielded a single podium across 23 starts, with most of his racing on road and street courses rather than ovals. He drove for Formula E in 2017 with NIO, then returned to international racing with eight starts there before a brief stint in the FIA World Touring Car Cup in 2020 with Team Mulsanne, where he finished nineteenth in the championship.[2]
In GP2, Filippi regularly raced against established professionals of comparable standing; his record against Vitaly Petrov and Davide Valsecchi, both FIA Platinum drivers and repeated rivals across the series, remained closely matched. He took a podium ahead of Mitch Evans, an elite professional who went on to a substantial Formula E career, and finished ahead of Lewis Hamilton once during Hamilton's single-seater campaigns. His IndyCar podium came amid a competitive field that mixed professionals with developing drivers across the American single-seater ladder.
