Zoel Amberg is a Swiss professional racing driver, FIA Gold-graded, whose career spanned five seasons across single-seater and endurance championships from 2011 to 2015. He raced primarily for Pons Racing, competing in Formula V8 3.5, GP3 Series, GP2 Series and the World Endurance Championship in the LMP2 prototype class.[1]
Amberg made his indexed debut in GP3 Series in 2011 with CRS Racing, taking 12 starts. He then moved to Formula V8 3.5 from 2012 to 2014, his most consistent championship with 44 starts for Pons Racing and one podium finish. A brief GP2 campaign in 2015 yielded five starts for Lazarus. His final season saw him enter WEC in 2015, where he scored a podium in two starts shared driving an LMP2 prototype for Team Sard Morand and finished twentieth in the championship standings.[2]
Across his career Amberg raced regularly against established professionals; Will Stevens and Marco Sorensen, both WEC LMP2 champions and experienced single-seater competitors, were frequent rivals who typically finished ahead of him. He finished ahead of Pierre Gasly on six occasions in Formula V8 3.5, an elite professional and Formula Renault Eurocup champion, and beat Oliver Rowland once in the same series; Rowland would go on to win the 2015 Formula V8 3.5 championship and later become a Formula E driver.
