Jean-Marc Merlin is a retired professional endurance racing driver who raced in the WEC, a multiclass championship where LMP2 prototypes share the track with four other classes and each car is crewed by multiple drivers sharing duties over long-distance races. He holds an FIA Bronze grade, the amateur classification in endurance racing, and spent his indexed career with Oak Racing between 2013 and 2015.[1]
Merlin made eight starts across two seasons in the WEC LMP2 class. His final campaign, in 2015, saw him take three rounds and finish 19th in the championship standings. Throughout his time in the series he was a regular competitor against established professionals including Ricardo Gonzalez and Roman Rusinov, both of whom he typically finished behind. He recorded two finishes ahead of drivers of considerably higher standing: he beat Sam Bird, an established professional and Platinum-graded driver who won the 2015 WEC LMP2 championship and went on to race Formula E, and Julien Canal, an established professional with Silver grading who shared the 2015 LMP2 title.[2]
