🇬🇧 Matthew Howson

Matthew Howson is a British driver who raced in the World Endurance Championship between 2013 and 2016, competing in the LMP2 class at the wheel of KCMG prototypes. Graded FIA Silver, he sat below the full-professional Gold and Platinum ranks within endurance racing. He retired from active competition after 2016.[1]

Howson started in the WEC in 2013 and took five wins across his 20 starts in the championship, finishing on the podium in 11 of them. His standout result came at the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans, where he won the LMP2 class alongside Richard Bradley and Nicolas Lapierre. He contested four seasons with KCMG, the team accounting for 19 of his 20 WEC starts. His final competitive season in 2016 saw him finish 25th in the championship standings after two rounds. The team later appointed him as manager in 2020.[2]

Howson's WEC career placed him among a consistent group of LMP2 regulars. He raced closely with Roman Rusinov, a Gold-graded professional who won the LMP2 title in 2013 and 2015, and with Julien Canal, an established professional and two-time LMP2 champion. In rarer encounters, he finished ahead of Mitch Evans, an elite professional who has since established himself across Formula E and international single-seater racing, and Mike Conway, a Platinum-graded driver and two-time WEC prototype champion. His record reflects racing at a level between the full professionals and the larger amateur contingent that shares the WEC grid.
