Richard Parker competed in the Star Mazda Championship during the 2002 season, the only year of racing on record. He completed three starts without recording a win or podium finish, averaging a 33rd-place classification across those events.[1]

Parker raced in a field dominated by drivers of markedly higher calibre. His primary rivals included Scott Speed, who went on to earn an FIA Platinum rating and win the 2004 Formula Renault Eurocup; Moses Smith, the 2002 Star Mazda champion; and Tim Jennings, Bret Arsenault, Justin Pruskowski and John Olsen, all established professionals rated between 3,834 and 4,251. Parker finished behind Speed in all three shared races. Against Smith, Pruskowski, Olsen and Pierre Ehret, he achieved isolated finishes ahead of them in single races, but lost the overall head-to-head records with most of these rivals.

Parker's rating of 3,053 places him in the semi-professional band; this level describes drivers who win in pro-am fields and run mid-pack among full professionals, though in Parker's case the record shows mid-pack finishes in a professional field without wins recorded. His career concluded after the 2002 season.
