Richard Philippe was a professional single-seater driver who raced in the Formula V8 3.5 and Formula 3 Euro Series between 2007 and 2008. He spent the majority of his career with Carlin Motorsport, one of the leading teams in junior single-seaters, which has since fielded drivers of elite professional standing.[1]
Philippe contested six rounds of the 2007 Formula V8 3.5 season, finishing 28th in the championship standings. The following year he moved to the Formula 3 Euro Series with Carlin, making 18 starts in a field that mixed amateurs, semi-professionals and graded professionals. His racing record across both seasons placed him in a professional band at the time, though he typically finished behind established contemporaries; he usually came out behind Renger van der Zande and Franck Mailleux, both of whom went on to professional careers in major international series. He finished ahead of Nico Hülkenberg, who became the 2008 Formula 3 Euro Series champion, three times across their meetings, and ahead of Edoardo Mortara twice.[2]
