🇯🇵 Jean-Karl Vernay

Jean-Karl Vernay is an established professional rated in the Platinum grade, the FIA's highest category for endurance and sportscar racing. He spent the bulk of his career in the FIA World Touring Car Cup, where he drove TCR touring cars for Engstler Hyundai between 2018 and 2021, taking seven wins and 17 podiums across 92 starts. He also raced single-seaters in Formula 3 Euro and Formula 3 Macau, and contested endurance racing in the WEC and 24H Series.[1]

Vernay's touring car record was his strongest. He finished fifth in the 2018 WTCR season and won the WTCR Trophy in 2020 before his final year, 2021, when he took two wins and four podiums to place third in the championship standings. In Formula 3 Euro between 2007 and 2009 he took nine podiums from 51 starts; he won the Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix in 2009. His endurance racing brought one WEC win with Isotta Fraschini and a 24H Series victory with Liqui Moly Team Engstler in 2018, though his broader sportscar record was limited by a small number of starts.[2]

His main rivals in touring cars were Esteban Guerrieri and Thed Bjork, both established professionals and multiple champions; Vernay ran closely with both across seasons in the WTCR. Earlier in his career he had raced against elite-level opposition including Nico Hülkenberg, twice a Formula 3 Euro champion and a Formula 1 driver, and Daniel Ricciardo, a former Formula 1 regular.
