Robert Lommel was a competitive amateur racing in the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie, a national multiclass endurance championship where amateurs and professionals shared the same grid across fifteen classes. He raced Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport cars and modified production-based machinery in the Cup 3, H2 and SP 3 classes, spending nine seasons in the series from 2010 to 2019.[1]
Across 53 starts, Lommel took one win and eleven podiums. He typically finished mid-field against his regular competition; his most frequent opponents were Tim Groneck and Dirk Groneck, both multiple Cup 3 and SP 3 champions within the series, and Lommel usually finished behind them. He shared car #284 for eighteen of his starts with a small team operation that fielded 14 drivers across its indexed career; his strongest team-mate was semi-professional Nadir Zuhour. In his final indexed season, 2019, Lommel ran just two rounds and finished 20th in the championship standings.[2]
Lommel's record against stronger drivers was sparse but present. He finished ahead of Tatsuya Kataoka, an established professional and three-time Super GT GT300 champion, once across their meetings, and ahead of Maxime Soulet, a professional graded by the FIA, once in their shared races at Nürburgring.
