Tony Brise contested a single Formula 1 season in 1975, driving for Embassy Hill across ten Grand Prix rounds. Racing against a field that included established professionals and former champions, he showed competitiveness in patches; he finished ahead of Jody Scheckter, a former world champion, on three occasions, and also beat John Watson and Carlos Reutemann more than once apiece. His season average was P9.5 among classified finishers. However, he struggled against the strongest competitors in the grid. Niki Lauda, a three-time champion, finished ahead of him in all five races they shared, and Clay Regazzoni similarly outpaced him consistently.[1]
The Racer Rating of 4,832 places Brise at the lower end of professional single-seater racing, reflecting both his limited tenure and his mixed results against drivers of varying experience within that field. Embassy Hill itself was not a competitive force; the team achieved no race wins across its entire history and fielded only five drivers, none of whom rose to prominence. Brise's brief career ended in 1975 with a final position of P19 in the championship standings.[2]
His potential in motorsport was cut short by a fatal aircraft accident in which he and fellow racing driver Graham Hill were killed.
