Urs Sonderegger was an entry-level professional racing in the World Touring Car Championship, a single-class international championship that ran amateurs alongside graded professionals in the same grid. He drove a BMW 320 TC for Wiechers-Sport during his sole indexed season in 2011.[1]
Sonderegger made seven starts across the 2011 WTCC season and finished 22nd in the championship standings. He occasionally finished ahead of established professionals; he beat Alain Menu, a driver with 178 WTCC starts and multiple international series to his name, once, and also finished ahead of Mehdi Bennani, a Gold-graded professional. Against his most regular opponents he sat further down the order; he usually finished behind Menu and behind Yvan Muller, the four-time WTCC champion who was also racing that season.[2]
