Brandon Newey is a semi-professional driver whose Racer Rating of 3,486 places him in the competitive amateur band; this level describes drivers who are quick enough to race against professionals but typically finish outside the points in those fields. His single season of professional racing took place in 2014, when he competed in the Pro Mazda Championship with Team Pelfrey across eight rounds without securing a podium finish. His average finishing position of thirteenth across those races reflects a driver struggling to keep pace in a field of established competitors.[1]

Newey's season took place alongside several drivers of considerably higher calibre. Spencer Pigot and Kyle Kaiser, both of whom would go on to win the Indy NXT Championship in successive years, raced against him regularly; Newey finished ahead of Kaiser twice and Pigot once across their eight shared races, but trailed both drivers consistently. Scott Hargrove, the 2014 Pro Mazda Champion, completed a whitewash against him, finishing ahead in all eight races they shared. Newey did manage occasional competitive moments, beating established professional Luis Felipe Derani twice and FIA Silver-graded driver Nicolas Costa three times, but these isolated results could not sustain a pattern of competitiveness in the series. After 2014 his racing career ended. His prior kart racing success, including a notable victory in a prestigious Indiana championship, had not translated to progression in single-seater racing at the professional level.[2]
