Scott Hargrove, the 2014 Pro Mazda Champion, completed a whitewash against him, finishing ahead in all eight races they shared. Newey did manage occasional competitive moments, beating established professional Luis Felipe Derani twice and FIA Silver-graded driver Nicolas Costa three times, but these isolated results could not sustain a pattern of competitiveness in the series. After 2014 his racing career ended. His prior kart racing success, including a notable victory in a prestigious Indiana championship, had not translated to progression in single-seater racing at the professional level.[2]
