Shelby Blackstock, a United Kingdom national, was an entry-level professional racing driver holding FIA Silver grading in endurance and sportscar competition. He raced primarily in North American single-seater and multiclass endurance championships between 2013 and 2020. His main team affiliation was with Andretti Autosport and its sister operation Andretti Global, where he contested 33 of his 98 career starts in Pro Mazda Championship and Indy NXT machinery.[1]
Blackstock's record spanned eight seasons across four series. In Pro Mazda Championship, he took one win and 13 podiums from 30 starts between 2013 and 2014, finishing third in the 2014 championship standings. He then moved to Indy NXT, where he competed for Team Pelfrey from 2015 to 2018, collecting three podiums across 51 starts in a field mixing amateurs with professionals and graded drivers. His endurance racing came later in his career; in 2019 and 2020 he drove for LA Honda World Racing in IMSA Pilot Challenge, the TCR class, where he won twice and took four podiums from 14 starts. He also made a single appearance in IMSA WeatherTech in 2015 for BAR1 Motorsports and drove twice in Lamborghini Super Trofeo NA's Pro class for Wayne Taylor Racing in 2020.[2]
Blackstock raced regularly against drivers of comparable standing and higher. He was closely matched throughout his career with Kyle Kaiser, a Gold-graded professional and 2017 Indy NXT champion, and Juan Piedrahita, a fellow Silver-graded driver with Indy NXT and Pro Mazda experience. He finished ahead of elite and established professionals on multiple occasions, including Pato O'Ward, a Gold-graded driver who won both the 2017 IMSA WeatherTech title and the 2018 Indy NXT championship, and Felix Rosenqvist, a Gold-graded established professional and 2015 FIA Formula 3 European champion; he beat each of them four times across their shared races.
