Camilo Schmidt is a semi-professional driver from Venezuela with a single season of racing on record. In 2012, he competed in the Star Mazda Championship for Linares Racing, earning one win and one podium finish across fifteen starts while averaging a finishing position of thirteenth. His rating of 3,310 places him in the semi-professional band, a level typical of drivers who win in pro-am and one-make classes and compete in the midfield among full professionals.[1]
Schmidt's season was spent in a field that included several drivers who would go on to compete at considerably higher levels. He finished ahead of Gustavo Menezes, who later became FIA Gold-graded and won the 2016 WEC LMP2 championship, on six occasions, though he trailed Menezes more often than not. He also beat Connor De Phillippi twice in their fifteen shared races, though De Phillippi would become FIA Gold-graded and go on to win the 2025 GT World Challenge America Pro championship. Against most other regular rivals, however, Schmidt struggled; he finished behind Menezes nine times, behind De Phillippi thirteen times, and behind Gabby Chaves fourteen times. His win came in a rain-affected race that produced an unusually wild finish. After 2012, Schmidt stepped away from professional racing.
