Dan Knox is a Bronze-graded amateur driver who races for Lone Star Racing across a mix of solo sprint racing and shared-car endurance racing in the United States. He runs GT America as a solo entry, contesting its GT2 class in SRO GT2 machinery and its SRO3 class in GT3 cars, and combines that with endurance rounds in IMSA WeatherTech, GT World Challenge America and IMSA Pilot Challenge, sharing GT3 and GT4-level cars with co-drivers in fields that run from amateurs up to graded professionals. A Racer Rating of 4,062 puts him at the professional level of the scale.[1]
His longest-running program is IMSA WeatherTech, where he has ten starts for Lone Star Racing spread across a decade, racing the GTD class in a GT3 car. GT America has been his most productive series, three wins and five podiums from seven starts. His two starts in GT World Challenge America both produced wins and podiums, and he has a single start apiece in IMSA Pilot Challenge and Trans-Am, the latter in 2020, a season in which he finished sixth in the championship standings from that one round.[2]
The drivers he meets most often illustrate where he sits. CJ Moses, a semi-professional and fellow Bronze-graded driver who has won the 2025 GT America GT2 title, is a regular opponent Knox usually finishes ahead of, while Andy Lally, a Gold-graded professional with a long IMSA WeatherTech and NASCAR record, is a regular opponent Knox runs closely matched against. Further up the grid, Knox has finished ahead of Kyle Kirkwood, an Indy NXT and Indy Pro 2000 champion, and James Calado, a four-time WEC LMGTE Pro champion, each on one occasion. Lone Star Racing has fielded a number of drivers over the years, the strongest of them the professional Marc Goossens, and it was with Lone Star that Knox won the GT America sprint race at Long Beach in 2024.
