Dean Copeland is a semi-professional racing driver whose career centered on spec Mazda racing in single-class and multiclass championships in the United States. He drove Mazda MX-5 Miatas for Copeland Motorsports across 40 starts between 2008 and 2021, retiring from active competition.[1]
Copeland won nine races in his first indexed season, 2008, in a NASA multiclass championship that mixed amateur and professional drivers across fifteen classes; he added four more wins there in 2009 for thirteen podiums across the series. He returned to racing in 2016, joining the Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin, where he took one win and four podiums over five seasons through 2021. His most recent activity came in 2021, when he competed in two rounds and finished twenty-fifth in the championship standings.[2]
In the Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup, Copeland was closely matched with Nathanial Sparks, a semi-professional who won the ND1 championship in 2016, and Zachry Lee, an entry-level professional graded Bronze by the FIA.
