Cunningham finished eighth in the 2007 Star Mazda Championship standings. He beat the championship winner Dane Cameron twice over the season and managed a finish ahead of Max Chilton, an established professional who would go on to race Formula 1, GP2 and IndyCar. He typically ran behind both Cameron and Alex Ardoin, a professional with forty-one Star Mazda starts to his credit.[2]
