Max Chilton is a retired professional racing driver who spent fifteen seasons in single-seater and open-wheel racing from 2007 to 2021. Platinum-graded under FIA endurance classifications, he competed primarily in IndyCar, where he made 83 starts across 2016 to 2021 as a full-time professional. He also raced in Formula 1 for Marussia in 2013 and 2014, taking 35 starts in the championship, and spent time in GP2 Series and Indy NXT, primarily with Carlin.[1]

Chilton's open-wheel record comprised 190 starts across seven series with 3 wins and 10 podiums. In GP2 Series he took 2 wins and 4 podiums from 53 starts; in Indy NXT he won once and podiumed six times from 14 starts. His IndyCar tenure produced no wins but consistent mid-field presence, with road-course racing accounting for 53 of his 83 starts and oval racing the remainder. He competed in a single WEC round for Nissan Motorsports in 2015 but did not continue in endurance racing.[2]

Chilton raced regularly against drivers at the established professional level and higher. He finished consistently behind Josef Newgarden, a two-time IndyCar champion with 246 starts in the series, and Marcus Ericsson, an established professional who ran 127 IndyCar starts across his career. He beat รlex Palou, now a four-time IndyCar champion, on six occasions, and once finished ahead of Nico Rosberg, the 2016 Formula 1 world champion, in their single meeting in GP2 Series.
