Herman Buurman was an entry-level professional racing in the FIA GT Championship, a shared-car endurance series that mixed amateur and professional drivers on the same grid. He drove for Marcos Racing International across four seasons from 1997 to 2000, making seven starts.[1]
Buurman competed almost entirely against drivers of his own level and above. He regularly raced against Nigel Smith, a professional with extensive FIA GT experience, and Franz Konrad, an entry-level professional graded FIA Bronze who had also raced Formula 3; in both cases he typically finished behind them. He finished ahead of Jean-Pierre Jarier, a professional with 138 Formula 1 starts and a long career in GT racing, once, and beat Christian Gläsel, a professional, in a single meeting. His team, Marcos Racing International, was a small operation fielded by drivers of varying experience, with its strongest entries driven by the professional Mike Hezemans.[2]
