Nigel Smith was a professional endurance racing driver who competed in the FIA GT Championship from 1997 to 2005, driving shared sportscars for Seikel Motorsport and others. He made 34 starts across nine seasons in a series that mixed amateur, semi-professional and graded professional drivers in the same multiclass grid.[1]
Smith finished 32nd in the championship standings in 2005, his final season. He was a regular presence in the FIA GT field throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, often finishing ahead of entry-level professional opponents such as Gerold Ried but typically behind the more established professionals, most notably Mike Hezemans, a Silver-graded driver with over a century of FIA GT starts. Smith occasionally prevailed against stronger competition; he beat both Max Angelelli, an established professional who raced Formula 3 Macau and IMSA, and Alain Menu, an established professional with 178 World Touring Car Championship starts, though only once against each across their limited meetings.[2]
