Junichiro Yamashita is an entry-level professional racing in Japan's Super GT championship, a multiclass endurance series in which cars are shared between two or more drivers. He races the GT300 class, which fields a mix of FIA GT3 machinery and Japanese-built GT300 specials, for Team Mach across a ten-season career from 2008 to 2017.[1]
Yamashita made 49 starts in Super GT over that span, finishing 20th in the championship standings in 2017, his final season. He was a regular entrant in the series throughout the 2010s, competing alongside established professionals including multiple GT300 champions. He finished ahead of Katsumasa Chiyo, an FIA Gold-graded driver with 95 Super GT starts, once across their meetings, and beat Yuhi Sekiguchi, an FIA Gold professional who went on to win the 2021 Super GT GT500 title, three times in the same period.[2]
Against his most frequent opponents, Yamashita typically finished behind them. Nobuteru Taniguchi, a three-time Super GT GT300 champion and established professional, regularly outpaced him across their shared seasons. Kazuki Hoshino, the 2010 GT300 champion with 112 Super GT starts, also finished ahead in most of their meetings. This placed Yamashita in a mid-field position within a grid mixing amateurs and semi-professionals with graded professionals competing in the same races.
