Kouki Saga was a professional endurance driver who spent sixteen seasons in Super GT, the Japanese multiclass championship where cars are shared by multiple drivers across races that pit FIA GT3 machinery and Japanese GT300 specials against each other. He raced the GT300 class for APR, a team with a long roster and occasional front-running pace, from 2008 to 2023. He also made three starts in Formula 3 Macau during 2008 and 2009, racing in a single-class field where amateurs and semi-professionals competed alongside graded professionals.[1]
Saga took five wins and eighteen podiums across 110 Super GT starts. His most recent indexed season was 2023, when he collected one podium from seven rounds and finished eleventh in the championship standings. Over his career in multiclass endurance racing he typically finished behind Nobuteru Taniguchi, a three-time Super GT GT300 champion with an established professional record, and ran closely with Katsuyuki Hiranaka, an entry-level professional who shared similar experience in Super GT and the Formula 3 series.[2]
His strongest outings came against drivers of a significantly higher level. He finished ahead of Sho Tsuboi, an elite professional and multiple champion in Super GT's premier GT500 class and in Super Formula, on six occasions across their shared Super GT races. He also beat Alex Palou twice; Palou is a five-time IndyCar champion and elite professional who stepped into Super GT for select rounds.
