Michael Benham is a retired professional endurance racing driver, FIA Bronze graded, who raced LMP3 prototypes and GT3 cars in multiclass championships. He competed primarily for COOL Racing and RLR MSport across five seasons from 2017 to 2022, taking 34 starts in the European Le Mans Series, Le Mans Cup and Road to Le Mans.[1]
Benham won the 2022 European Le Mans Series LMP3 championship with COOL Racing, taking two wins and five podiums across twelve starts in that campaign. He accumulated eight wins and fourteen podiums across all three series. His best results came in the Le Mans Cup, where he took four wins in twelve starts for RLR MSport, and in Road to Le Mans, where he won twice from ten entries. In the European Le Mans Series he finished on the podium in five of his twelve races.[2]
He raced regularly against established professionals. Tom Dillmann, a Formula V8 3.5 champion and multiple Le Mans Cup winner, finished behind Benham twice. Malthe Jakobsen, who won the 2022 European Le Mans Series LMP3 championship and has raced the World Endurance Championship, was beaten twice by Benham as well. Among his more frequent opponents, Benham was closely matched with Anthony Wells, a professional competitor with considerable experience across all three series, and usually finished ahead of James McGuire, an entry-level professional with whom he shared regular grids.
