Michael Potekhen is a semi-professional racing driver whose career record consists of a single season in the Star Mazda Championship in 2003. His Racer Rating of 3,881 places him among competitive amateurs and semi-professionals; he raced against a mix of drivers at similar levels and some notably stronger competitors. His eight starts yielded two podium finishes and an average classified position of 12th, with a fourth-place finish in the final championship standings.[1]

Potekhen shared the full 2003 Star Mazda grid with Luis Schiavo, that season's champion, and finished behind him in all eight races they contested. His head-to-head record against the broader field showed mixed results. He beat the semi-professional Ryan Justice in six of their eight encounters, demonstrating clear speed against drivers at his own level, but was outpaced by Michael McDowell, an FIA Gold-rated driver who would win the following year's Star Mazda Championship; McDowell finished ahead of Potekhen in six of their eight shared races. Potekhen also recorded single victories over stronger drivers including Jeff Bucknum and the 2002 Star Mazda champion Moses Smith, though these were isolated results rather than part of a pattern of dominance. His career ended after the 2003 season.[2]
