Michael Simpson is a professional-level driver with a Racer Rating of 4,821, placing him among the sharp end of competitive national-level racing. This rating reflects a driver capable of competing in established professional fields, though his record shows he was outpaced by the elite company he faced.[1]
Simpson's recorded career spans two seasons of World Endurance Championship competition with Team LNT in 2018 and 2019, totalling five starts without a win or podium finish. His most recent outing came in the 2019 WEC season, where he competed in four rounds and finished eighteenth overall. Throughout his WEC tenure, Simpson faced an exceptionally strong field: he never finished ahead of Kazuki Nakajima, Mike Conway, Sebastien Buemi, Bruno Senna, or Kamui Kobayashi across their shared races, each a multiple championship-winning professional at the elite level. Against the broader grid he showed occasional competitive moments, beating FIA Gold-graded professionals Egor Orudzhev, Ben Hanley and Luca Ghiotto in single races, though these isolated results did not establish a sustained pattern against drivers of that calibre.
Simpson has since retired from racing. His competitive record was defined by a small sample of races against world-class sportscar competitors at a level where he consistently finished behind them, a common outcome for drivers entering top-tier endurance racing without an established track record in the category.
