Niclas Jönsson is an entry-level professional racing driver with an FIA Silver grading, placing him among drivers developing toward the full-professional grades in endurance and sportscar competition. He races primarily in multiclass endurance series for RPM Racing, his main team across 36 starts. His machinery spans LMP3 prototypes in IMSA competition and Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars in the 24H Series, shared-drive racing where he partners with other drivers across multi-hour and multi-day events.[1]
Across 19 seasons and 90 starts, Jönsson has taken 19 podiums and two wins, the latter coming in IMSA Prototype Challenge in LMP3 machinery. His endurance record centers on the 24H Series, where he has scored six podiums from 18 starts, and the World Endurance Championship, where he took five podiums across 21 starts with Eurasia Motorsport between 2012 and 2018. He has also raced the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie and Nürburgring 24 Hours, taking two podiums in six attempts at the latter. His single-seater racing was limited; he started three rounds of Formula 3 Macau in 1991 and three IndyCar oval starts in 1999 and 2000, finishing 12th in the Delphi Indy 200 at Walt Disney World Speedway as his best result in open-wheel machinery.[2]
In endurance fields that regularly include Gold-graded professionals and series champions, Jönsson typically finishes behind the strongest regulars, such as Gold-graded WEC champion Paolo Ruberti and Nürburgring specialist Robin Chrzanowski. He has however finished ahead of Austin Cindric, a NASCAR Xfinity and Truck series champion, and Shane van Gisbergen, the two-time Supercars champion, though each occasion was a single meeting. RPM Racing, his primary team across the past decade, fields 14 drivers and has won four races in this index, with professional-level driver Marco Holzer as its strongest entry.
