Petru Umbrärescu is a professional endurance racer, competing in a multiclass championship where each car is shared between two or more drivers over the course of a race. He drives GT3 machinery in the LMGT3 class of the FIA World Endurance Championship for Akkodis ASP Team.[1]
Across two seasons, 2025 and 2026, he has started twelve WEC races for Akkodis ASP Team, taking two wins and two podiums. The 2026 season is still in progress, with four rounds run so far.[2]
The LMGT3 class puts him alongside graded professionals as well as amateurs, and his most frequent opposition includes Jonny Edgar, an FIA Silver driver who won the 2020 ADAC Formula 4 title and the 2024 European Le Mans Series LMP2 championship, and Richard Lietz, an FIA Platinum driver who has won both the 2015 WEC LMGTE Pro and 2025 WEC LMGT3 titles. Umbrärescu is closely matched with Edgar but usually finishes behind Lietz. He has also finished ahead of Ayhancan Güven, the 2025 DTM champion, and twice ahead of his own teammate Kelvin Van der Linde, the 2025 GT World Challenge Europe champion.
