Rob Hines competed in club-level single-seater racing over five seasons from 2020 to 2024, racing exclusively in SCCA Runoffs competition. His record across seven starts yielded two podium finishes and an average race position of 5.8, placing him in the competitive amateur band; this represents the front end of club racing, where drivers hold real competition licenses and race against other amateurs in genuine competition but do not compete professionally. Hines finished ahead of established professionals in isolated instances, notably outrunning Connor Zilisch, an FIA Gold driver and 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion, and Francis Selldorff, an FIA Silver driver and 2023 IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge GSX champion, in single races each. These were occasional results rather than patterns of dominance over stronger fields.[1]
Across his shared races with regular rivals, Hines showed mixed form. He held a winning head-to-head record against Todd Buras, finishing ahead across all three encounters, and finished level with Chris Hart despite being outpointed slightly. Against Preston Pardus, rated as a professional-level driver, Hines was outfinished more often than not. His most regular competition came from drivers rated between 1,788 and 3,948, a span encompassing both amateur and professional levels; he finished behind Marshall Mast in all three of their shared races.
Hines retired from racing after 2024. His career remained confined to club-level competition, where his occasional strong results and podium finishes marked him as a capable amateur without establishing a pattern of competitive success against the stronger drivers he encountered.
