David Stover is a semi-professional driver; his Racer Rating of 3,575 places him in the semi-professional band, meaning he competed at the level of pro-am racing and mid-pack finishes among full professionals, though his record shows minimal racing activity. His career on record spans three seasons from 2004 to 2006, concentrated in the Star Mazda Championship, a single-seater feeder series where he made four starts without recording a win or podium finish. He averaged a finishing position of 14th across his classified races.[1]

Stover's head-to-head record against his regular rivals was mixed. He finished ahead of Ryan Justice evenly across four shared races, a split result against a professional-level driver. Against John Pew, an FIA Silver graded driver, Stover won the head-to-head count three races to one; he also finished ahead of John Faulkner and several lower-rated competitors in the majority of their meetings. Notably, he finished ahead of Jonathan Bomarito, a Platinum-graded driver and much stronger competitor, once; he also beat professional-level drivers Sean Guthrie and Robbie Pecorari and Mark Wilkins, a Gold-graded IMSA champion, each on a single occasion. However, these isolated successes against stronger fields do not establish a pattern and were outweighed by his consistent mid-pack finishes in the Star Mazda field.
