🏳️ Ed Zabinski

Ed Zabinski is a semi-professional driver whose rating of 3,276 places him in the competitive amateur band; he races at club and entry-level professional events, typically self-funded and competing against a mix of amateurs and paid drivers rather than among full-time professionals. His recorded career spans a single season in 2002, when he started three races in the Star Mazda Championship. He finished P27 overall in that series without scoring a win or podium finish.[1]

Zabinski's head-to-head record against his Star Mazda rivals reveals a difficult season. He failed to finish ahead of Moses Smith, the series champion that year, or Tim Jennings, and lost all three encounters with Bret Arsenault. He did beat Justin Pruskowski and John Olsen in all three shared races, and finished ahead of Glenn Cooper twice in three meetings. His most notable results came against stronger drivers from other years; he beat future Star Mazda champion Luis Schiavo once, along with single-race victories over James Goughary, Pierre Ehret, and Glenn Cooper. His average finishing position of P14.3 across classified starts places him mid-field in the fields he contested.[2]

Zabinski has since moved into sports car racing. He appeared as a co-driver with Scott Tucker in Rolex Sports Car Series and Koni Challenge events in 2007, racing in a different discipline from his single-seater background. He remains active in club racing; recent headlines note his participation in SCCA events through at least 2024, competing in national Runoffs and touring car classes at that amateur level.
