James Manderson is a professional-level driver, rated 4,444, who competed in a single-seater career spanning one season in 2003. His rating places him among competitive professionals capable of running at the sharp end of national championships or strong feeder series, though his recorded results do not extend far enough to fully characterise his trajectory.[1]
Manderson raced in the Formula 3 Euro Series in 2003, posting seven starts for Swiss Racing Team with no wins or podiums and a best finish of 28th overall. His average finishing position across classified races was 16th. Throughout his season he found himself consistently outpaced by the top drivers in the field. He finished behind Ryan Briscoe, who won the 2003 Formula 3 Euro Series championship, in all six races they shared; he also raced twice against eventual Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg and the elite-level professional Robert Doornbos, losing those head-to-heads decisively. Against semi-professional and national-level competitors such as Sakon Yamamoto and Richard Lietz he achieved a roughly even record, finishing ahead of Yamamoto in three of six shared races and Lietz in two of six. His single strong result came when he outfinished Doornbos in one race, an outlier in an otherwise difficult campaign.
Manderson retired from racing after 2003 and has not competed since. His one-season record in a competitive Euro Series field places him as a professional driver who raced among his peers without establishing himself among the regular points finishers.
