Juan Antonio del Pino was an entry-level professional racing in the Formula Renault Eurocup, a single-class international championship that fields amateurs, semi-professionals and graded professionals in the same races. He drove for Epsilon Euskadi in 2005, his only indexed season.[1]
Del Pino completed a full season of 12 rounds in the Eurocup and finished 24th in the championship standings. He regularly raced against professionals including Junior Strous, a driver with 31 Eurocup starts, and Patrick Rocha, who contested 22 rounds in the series; del Pino typically finished behind both. He twice beat Bertrand Baguette, later a two-time champion and Platinum-graded driver who would go on to race in Formula 1 and Super GT, and twice finished ahead of Jerome d'Ambrosio, who subsequently raced in Formula E, GP2 and Formula 1.[2]
Epsilon Euskadi, the team del Pino drove for, was an established entrant in the series with 18 wins across its whole indexed history and a roster that included Carlos Sainz, an elite-level professional. Del Pino's occasional results against drivers who later reached much higher levels of motorsport showed glimpses of competitive pace, though his consistency against regular professionals in the Eurocup grid placed him in the series' mid-field.
