Matt Downs competed in the World Endurance Championship during its 2013 season, entering the 24 Hours of Le Mans as his sole recorded start in professional motorsport. He drove an Oreca-Gibson prototype for Boutsen Ginion Racing in the LMP2 category, finishing seventy-first in a championship that fields former and active Formula 1 drivers and functions as a professional career pinnacle. His single appearance placed him within a field of international endurance racing professionals.[1]
Downs finished ahead of three competitors across his one start: Romain Brandela, a driver rated more than seven hundred points higher on the Elo scale; Olivier Porta; and Stéphane Raffin. The Boutsen Ginion Racing squad in which he competed had fielded twenty-two drivers across its history in the index, its strongest being Nick Yelloly, a considerably more experienced professional. With only one classified race to his name, Downs' career on record extended no further than the 2013 Le Mans event, after which he retired from racing.
