🇺🇸 Michael Johnson

Michael Johnson is a semi-professional racing in national pro-am multiclass endurance and circuit racing. He competes primarily in IMSA Pilot Challenge, where he drives lightly modified production sports cars and TCR touring cars for JDC-Miller MotorSports and co-drives with a teammate across a shared car. He holds an FIA Silver rating, which places him below the two full professional grades in sportscar and endurance racing. His Racer Rating of 2,333 reflects semi-professional standing.[1]

Johnson has raced for sixteen seasons across multiple series since 2009, accumulating 136 starts and one win. His most substantial body of work lies in IMSA Pilot Challenge, where he has made 61 starts and taken 15 podiums from 2016 to 2022, including his sole career victory. He has also competed in national club racing through BMW CCA Club Racing and SCCA Regionals, picking up five podiums in 13 SCCA starts in 2023. His single-seater experience was limited to 19 Pro Mazda Championship starts in 2014 and 2015 with JDC Motorsports.[2]

In IMSA Pilot Challenge Johnson races regularly against entry-level professionals including Roy Block and Jon Morley, both drivers with significantly larger starting counts in the series; he runs closely matched with both. He has finished ahead of established and elite professionals in isolated instances, beating Pato O'Ward, an elite professional and champion of both IMSA WeatherTech and Indy NXT, once, and Luis Felipe Derani, an established professional with World Endurance Championship experience, once. The bulk of his competition comes from the broader field of semi-professionals and amateurs that populate the shared-class IMSA grid.
